Pointing when modeling, simple and effective!

When modeling how to make a speech sound for a student you almost always would like the student to be looking at you. I am amazed at how often students look for a split second and then look away; not even seeing how I made the sound! Parents and teachers, if you point to your mouth when you ask your student or child to "look at me" the probability of them continuing to look while you articulate the sound goes up 100 fold! You'll often see them also point to their mouth too; this is fine. Be sure to keep the point going as you model the sound. It may feel a bit strange at first doing this but it really makes a difference! Give it a try!
